Greater Greenwood Community Band is performing a set of soulful deep-south jazz tunes in a concert titled, “Way Down Yonder In New Orleans” on Saturday, May 28 at 6pm in the Greenwood Amphitheater. A sample of the music selections include “Slidin’ Down the Mississippi”, “Trombones for President”, “Dixieland On Stage”, and several others such as the sweet New Orleans jazz spirituals, “At A Camp Meeting” and “At A Dixieland Jazz Funeral”. The band will be joined by the following special guests.
- Larry McWilliams (Trumpet), retired Director of Jazz Studies at Ball State University
- Freddy Mendoza (Trombone), Assistant Professor of Jazz Trombone and Online Education at Ball State University
- Mark O’Connor (Saxophone), Director of Jazz Studies at the University of Indianapolis
Prior to the concert’s 6:00 downbeat, as the band is warming up, the Greenwood Band’s Saxophone Quartet will be performing New Orleans-themed pre-concert entertainment on the lawn.
